Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

LOVD is completely based on Open Source software. Therefore, obtaining software for the LOVD installation should not be hard. All programs described below are common software, generally installed on any (commercial) hosting provider. Sometimes a MySQL database is not included (or optional) with an standard account at a hosting provider.

LOVD runs on Linux/Unix, Windows and Mac but has been most extensively tested on Linux. Therefore, we recommend using a Linux/Unix server. For Windows we have a Local install CD available, which will install LOVD and all necessary software on your computer in just a few minutes (not recommended for production environment).

Powered by PHP PHP scripting language (version 4.2.0 and up)
(Also tested with PHP 5)
Powered by MySQL MySQL database (version 3.23.33 and up)
(Also tested with MySQL 4.0, 4.1 and 5.0; MyISAM and InnoDB table types)
A properly configured Mail Transfer Agent for sending emails (such as registration information).
We recommend the use of SSL, to encrypt the data received and sent by LOVD.
